With a clear victory of 60 points ahead of rival clubs Truro City oozed class and confidence across 9 – 12 year old age groups at the annual Junior Interclub competition held at Penzance Leisure Centre on Saturday 16th January.
Representing Truro City Swimming Club were 9 year olds, Joshua Leigh, Wilfred Bartlett, Keira Downing, Maisie Miles,10 year olds Harry Polkinghorne, George Mitchell, Zak Clemens, Sam Poppy, Anya Hocking, Abby Martyn, Mia Penberthy, Katie Smith, India Castle 11 year olds Ben Bradley, William Dewhurst, Alex Sim, Jake Georgelin, Isabelle Leigh, Maddison Lewis, Abbie Downing, Caitlin Keaney and 12 year olds Luke Barnsley, Aaron Martyn, Mikey Pond, Thomas Trebilcock, Charlotte Drew, Laura James, Mia Rule and Hannah Stephens.
Mikey Pond and Mia Rule were chosen as Junior Captains and proudly sported their new club shirts as the team joined the procession of clubs at the start of the gala. Truro City went in as reigning champions. This year all Cornwall clubs competed in the one gala, held over two sessions and covering individual 50m stroke events and team freestyle and medley relays with the exciting boys and girls freestyle canons (involving two swimmers from each age group) starting and ending the gala. Each event had two heats and Truro City notched up an impressive amount of first places with the majority of other swims scoring highly in the top four helping to maximise points. Team spirit was excellent and every swimmer was cheered on heartily by their team mates. Coach Emily was justly proud of her juniors for giving their all and many came away with PBs which bodes well for the rapidly approaching County Championships in February.
Well done Truro City Swimming Club Juniors,
YOU ARE THE BEST IN CORNWALL.
Results will be published on the Cornwall ASA website.
A New Season And New Captains
Truro City Swim Club welcome you to the new swim year with enthusiasm. After the summer break and conclusion of a highly successful 2014/15 we look forward to your continued support into 2015/16.
Thank you to all members who have renewed their membership this week. This system of renewal enables the Club to more efficiently manage it’s membership and financial planning.
I hope those of you who were able to attend the summer social on Gyllynvase beach in August, enjoyed the BBQ and unexpected fine weather. We were grateful for the loan of the Gylly gazebo, just in case of rain, and the members who helped with the organisation.
We were delighted to announce our new Club Captains at this event. Susie Laws and Jack Rogers were awarded Captains with Jodie Kotenko and Euan Dungavel as Vice Captains. We look forward to seeing these swimmers continue to support our younger members on poolside and at galas throughout the year. Well Done to you all!
The special awards were also presented in August to a selection of swimmers in acknowledgment of their swimming achievements throughout the year. A full list of those swimmers will be published on the notice board and the Club website along with a calendar of forthcoming events.
The Club aims to support all members to swim to their full potential in a safe and enjoyable environment. Your support to achieve this aim is appreciated. So train hard, swim fast and enjoy. Here’s to a successful 2015/16!
