3 National Age Group Swimmers with 5 National Qualifying Times ...

3rd & 4th May
What a meet .... Josie Williams, Amelia Grigg and Kay de Courcy gained five 2008 national times between them at the Welsh Regional Sports Centre in Newport South Wales on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th May.

These three very talented young swimmers dug deep, knew what they wanted and achieved their goals.

Josie Williams led the way in fantastic style with a tore de force in her first event the 200m Freestyle, the weekend was set with a time of 2:09.52 which is over three seconds within the national QT. Later that same day Amelia Grigg followed this up with a national qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke 1:18.52.

On a roll and full of confidence on the second day Josie took hold of the 100m freestyle and got her second national time 1.01.10 again well inside the required time. Kay de Courcy was knocking on the door for a national time in her 100m freestyle heat just missing out by four tenths of a second.

The final gave Kay the opportunity to fulfill a dream; she achieved this with a national qualifying time of 1.01.48.

Towards the end of the day Amelia stepped up for her attempt at the 200m breaststroke national time which she also fulfilled with a tremendous time of 2:49.31 making this a very memorable weekend open meet and one that these three simmers will always remember.

Other swims that took place at the 2008 Newport Spring Open Meet produced PB's and times achieved that will give confidence to the swimmers attending the regional long course age group championships in June.

A big thank you must go to Mike Rawbone the team manager who attended this meet and helped the girls to realise their potential. Mike when refering to one of the swimmers was quoted during the day as saying "if want to swim national times it is best to eat sweet and sour chicken!"
